Responding rapidly to emission events is critical to improve operations and minimize risk in light of new regulations (see: new Super Emitter Program under OOOOb/c). Project Canary helps operators detect and respond to leaks more easily than ever with improved alerting capabilities in our SENSE platform – designed to enhance accuracy and precision.
Project Canary empowers operators with user-friendly tools to detect and respond to leaks effectively.
Let’s take a closer look at what’s new and what it means for operators.
What’s New?
Emissions management just got easier. Project Canary has expanded our alerting capabilities to support three types of alerts that enable rapid action on leak detection. These alert types can be used in isolation or combination, based on operator objectives:
- Simple Alerts: The most straightforward alert. They trigger immediately when concentrations (ppm) exceed a set threshold within a specified time frame.
- Smart Alerts: Utilizing advanced analytics, Smart Alerts take a more intelligent approach to monitoring concentrations (ppm). These alerts consider the site’s history and wind patterns and recognize when smaller alerts are part of a larger event to avoid alert fatigue.
- Quant Alerts (for Quantification-enabled sites): Quant Alerts activate when total site emissions (kg/hr) surpass a predefined threshold. They incorporate the advanced features of SENSE Quantification to account for atmospheric conditions, obstacles, and offsite sources. Operators can also leverage our best-in-class emissions source localization capability to help streamline LDAR.
Go Deeper:
Operators have the flexibility to choose the alert types that best suit their needs. Why? Each type comes with its own set of advantages and considerations.
- Simple Alerts provide instant notifications, ideal for urgent situations that require quick action. However, they might not be as accurate as the other alert types.
- Smart Alerts offer improved accuracy and understanding, ideal for more complex environments with frequent changes. They also help operators avoid getting overwhelmed by unnecessary alerts.
- Quant Alerts offer detailed insights into total site emissions, including breaking down emissions by equipment group. They give operators the most visibility into their sites’ emissions performance and will also support OOOOb alerting.
All alerts are localized to the equipment group and have a functional annotation form to track mitigation actions. Collaborate with your Customer Success and CanaryInsights team to tailor an alerting strategy that meets your organization’s requirements – including setting up the optimal alerts and thresholds to enhance your operations’ performance.
